NEW ZEALAND SOFTWARE FIRM SET TO LEAD THE PATENT SEARCH WORLD

World-wide patent searching now available for free, thanks to an innovative New Zealand software company.

HAMILTON, New Zealand - December 12, 2006 - Patent Analysis, a local New Zealand based high-tech software company specialising in data mining and search management, is poised to lead the world's largest patent searching companies.

"The typical monthly access charge for do-it-yourself patent searching would cost several hundreds of dollars", says Dr Stuart Inglis, Managing Director. "The Patent Analysis website www.patentanalysis.com provides more free full-text patent searching than any other patent search site in the world that we know of", adds Inglis.

Along with free international patent searching, the company has the only site in the world to offer text searching of New Zealand patents. "We are the primary destination for New Zealand patents searchers", says Inglis." "Having the full text of patents available provides a huge advantage, particularly to the growing New Zealand biotechnology community", he adds.

"Ensuring that you have the freedom to operate and novel intellectual property that can be protected, transforms a great idea into a commercial opportunity", says Dr Kannan Subramaniam, Regional Director of NZBIO. "A service such as Patent Analysis allows you to find this out much earlier, enabling you to guide your research towards more successful outcomes", he adds.

A leading innovation is that searchers are not required to know advanced Boolean commands, as is the case with most other patent search engines. The world's major patent databases can now be browsed by simply inserting text in normal spoken English.

Through extensive consultation with IPONZ (Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand), Patent Analysis is able to provide tools that are not only valuable to end users or patent attorneys, but to supplement existing patent search tools that IPONZ staff use on a daily basis. During the Beta testing stage, many other users also submitted excellent suggestions, many of which were implemented in the final offering.

Lakshmi Patel, Vice President of IPMarket.com, a company providing a web-portal for buying and selling of intellectual property, says, "Patent Analysis has come like a bolt from the blue with an absolutely fantastic product."

Other users have been equally as complimentary about the new Patent Search Portal.

Geneva, Switzerland based Ian Cockburn, a Patent Attorney and Senior Search Analyst at Pipers, has found the patent search tool to be invaluable. "I can finally do proper full text searching on all New Zealand patents, giving me greater confidence in the results", he says. "It is also much easier and quicker for me to create my patent search-related reports for clients", adds Cockburn.

"New Zealand needs all the technology it can create and use, if it is to make a commercial impact on this fast moving world", says Godfrey Bridger, Business Development & Incubation Manager at Waikato's Innovation Park. "The search capability that Patent Analysis provides is vital for all creative entrepreneurial companies, including those being incubated in the Innovation Park", adds Bridger. A number of these incubator companies have also received a free sponsored service from Patent Analysis.

Derek Fairweather, CEO Innovation Waikato says, "The ease with which we have been able to validate new products or services, the freedom to operate, assess the degree of competition in an IP space and investigate the background of relevant inventors and scientists' topic domain is very impressive. Being able to carry this out yourself means you can explore threads that an IP lawyer would not have the context for".

Patent Analysis aims to dominate the patent searching market with their free offering. "Our strategy is simple; we have the databases, we have innovative search tools, and are committed to providing the core data free of charge - patent searchers are flocking to use our site", says Stuart Inglis.
