Integrating FaceBook social plugins into your website
Online Marketing, Social Networking Add commentsGuest post by Andrew Beaven - Web developer and FaceBook guru at Bold Horizon
Recently, we've been doing quite a bit of research into how you can integrate FaceBook into your existing website. Facebook provides extensions or social plugins, which can be placed on your website to allow FaceBook users to see what their friends have liked, commented or shared. The social plugin that most will be familiar with is the 'like button'. Over the last couple of months, these little buttons have popped up all over the web – you'll note we've added them to the top of each of our pages on our website.
Continuing our investigation, we came across FaceBook Connect. This system allows developers to create applications that can request various bits of information from a user's FaceBook account in order to customize their experience. We went about creating a couple of applications ourselves. The results were very interesting, though a little bit creepy.
Click here to check out our examples page. To see the advanced stuff, scroll down to the bottom and click the 'Login with FaceBook ' button. If you haven't got your FaceBook account locked down too tightly, you'll see some interesting examples of what you can do!

Good work on the integration Andrew, It really shows how invasive FaceBook is becoming in the business world. I guess it's a good thing, provided that users manage their FaceBook privacy settings judiciously. We await your next episode (aka blog post) on the subject with baited breath! -
