Don't be tempted to let your blog content stray off subject
Online Marketing, Search Engine Marketing, Social Networking, Blogging Add commentsIt's really tempting and easy to use your blog as a 'soap box' to get things off your chest. But before you rant off about something, think about whether it is related to the overall theme and subject matter that your blog represents.
In order to create a following and develop 'expert' status on your chosen subject, you need to define a subject stream and stick to it. Don't be tempted to waver of topic - you will lose followers and your harm your reputation.
If you develop your plan of blog topics up front you will have more than enough material to blog about. Start the process with a set of targeted 'head' keywords and flesh them out into a wider set of 'longtail' keywords or phrases.
Not only will this strategy develop a lot of great content for search engine indexing but it will keep your followers regularly fed with the 'right stuff'.

Good point, but I've probably taken this too far. I have 3 blogs: 1 for marketing, 1 for SEO & 1 for personal. Am I spreading myself too thin? -

Wow, you must have too much time on your hands dude!!! Don't know how you manage to run 3 blogs plus LinkedIn etc, but I'm not sure if you really need that many. On the positive side you are getting a narrowly defined subject stream.
